June 2008, a hot month in Montreal

June 2008, a hot month in Montreal

Mon dernier message était en français seulement
et notre candidat à Vancouver m'a écrit pour dire qu'il n'avait rien compris
alors ci-dessous la traduction pour nos abonnés anglophones.

Our neorhino candidate in Vancouver Quadra, John Turner, said :

Boy oh boy, it sure sounds like a lot 'o fun.
Best I can decipher is:

here are a few examples ----- good -------

grand reassembly for the french in Montreal?

This is a great gathering with a bunch of artists
who make an event in defense of French speaking in Montreal
because they feel French is loosing ground in Quebec.

ecosociety solidarity spectacle?

EcoSociety is a fine editor that publishes books
by ecologically and socially minded authors.

They recently published a book about Barrick Gold
a mining corporation who have made a lot of damage in Africa.

And Barrick Gold SLAPPed them with a 6 million$ lawsuit.

This is a show to gather funds to help EcoSociety defend themselves.

painting some bus for a caravan?

Pastors for Peace is a group of people
who fill up half a dozen school busses with goods for Cuba
and boldly go accross USA to deliver the goods to the cuban people.

They do that once a year.

big green something?

From June 16th to June 22nd, this is the World Earth Festival.

It happens in more than 30 countries accross the planet
and we're involved in the Canadian part of it all.

It opens by a Big Fashion Show (Grand défilé vert).

Over a hundred models will show creations by 25 designers
who are ecologically inspired in their fashion creations.

Our own François Gourd is one of the designers.

(here's the one that I really knew what was going on)
Cuban festival for five heroes

This is the one event in that bunch that the neorhino is responsible for
and well obviously it is to gather funds to help those 5 cubans
get out of jail and go back home.

international journey for the ... ?

This is the international day for slowing down.

Everything is going too fast these days,
this is a «do nothing today» event, simply enjoy being alive
and forget about stressing pressures from everyday modern living.

Planetary solstice dance
(keep me filled in on that one
as my wife and I have a Summer Solstice party every year
and I'm extra happy because I helped enable Noeline Villebrun
of the First People's National Party to celebrate
National Aboriginal Day with her family)

This one is an all night long party
in a place that used to be an indoor swimming pool
and that is now a nice location to hold events.

Music, film projection, animations, etc.

and some biological picnic with some guy named Montagne ?

This is a picnic allright, but it happens on the «mountain».

In the center of Montreal there is a mountain named «Mont-Royal»
and every sunday, all summer long, since many years,
hundred of people gather to play tam tam in the afternoon.

That's where we're ending this week of events.

Am I close?
regards,
Johnny
